New Chicks in Revue

Awhhh!  Look at them, the new baby chicks.
This is our new batch of babies.
Of course, the last batch of babies took forever to produced any eggs.
We were thinking they were just for looks.

We have six new girls that are very cute as you can see.

We have two new buffy's.

The babies with dark feathers fade right into the shadows,
but I assure you that they are very cute also.

The babies first trip to the outdoors.
Daddio just throws them in a bucket then dumps them.
And yes, the fact that there is chicken in a bucket was not lost on me.
The colonel will never see these chicks.

They grow so fast!

Those babies can't get all the glory.
Here's the rest of the crew.
The not-so-baby babies have started laying eggs now.
We have four girls earning their keep.

Chuckles and Ginger.
They are the only girls left from the first batch of chicks we
started with originally.

Chocolate and Misty are  the same breed in different colors.
Golden and Silver-laced Wyandottes.
Oh my, do you know how many breeds of chickens there are?
Gazillions.
Check out www.mypetchicken.com if you are interested in getting your own.
They are very reliable and helpful.
Check out some of the funky chickens.
Or do the funky chicken if you feel like it.

This is Miss Goldie.
  She is our Easter egger.
We are hoping for some green eggs.
That is, if she's not a rooster.
She's got a lot of attitude, but no crowing yet.
Keeping our fingers crossed.
I really like green eggs.

This is Chip.
She is Chocolate's buddy.
Get it?

Lemon.
We think she is the proud owner of our speckled eggs.
They are almost as good as green.

Well, there's the latest on the chicks.
The baby babies are out with the big chicks now and we only have one getting picked on.
Those girls can be so cranky!
Daddio makes sure everyone is treated right.
I used the last speckled egg for breakfast this morning, but I will get some pics for you soon.
They are so cute!

Oh yeah!
Happy Thanksgiving!

CHICKS: The Next Generation

Wow, I have been on a vacation from blogging.
Another instance of life overtaking all my hobbies.
So, here we are back in the business of frequent blogging.
Sorry, if you have been missing me.
I have been missing you.
And I have been making some changes as you can see.
Hope you like them.

New babies have arrived!
Chick shipment arrived on May 4th, 2011.
It's the new batch of girls.
They are super cute, like you would expect.
This is Chocolate.
Daddio has shortened it to Choco.
I can live with that.

Now, here is where things get a little fuzzy.
Chickie fuzz and photo fuzz.
Misty is in the front.

This would be Chip.  She goes w/Chocolate.
Two brown chicks and all 2Groovydude and I
can think of is food.
No surprise.

The two babies in the middle are Lemonjello and Orangejello.
(It's a long story I cannot repeat.)
They are pronounced:
La-monj-a-lo
&
Or-onj-a-lo
Think French.

Chickies on their first venture outdoors.
They were shocked at first, then the hunt and peck instinct took over.

So fluffy, so cute!

This is Goldie.
She has fast become the favorite.
She may be my new Cluck.

Group shot.

Daddio noticed something special about Lemon.

From the back it looks like and egg coming out.
Yes, we participate in strange humor around here.
What can I say?
It does look like an egg.
We are hoping this means really great egg-layer in the future.

The baby girls did great on their first adventure.
If you are really into chicks and want to see them in action,
click the play button below.
They are so much cuter in real life.

Be sure and check back soon.
I promise not to keep you waiting for so long for the next post.
Coming up are baby Wren birds from the fern
and Lazy Dog Wrestling.
Be sure not to miss it.

Glad to be back.

Egg Explosion! (Eggsplosion?)

These pictures are two-fold.
First, look at this really functional egg holder.
It's from Anthropologie.
Yes, they do have household goodies.
Another reason I love that place.

The second reason is my little chickie's beautiful eggs.
Just look how colorful and fun.
Supermarket eggs are not this fun.

The holder just sits right on the shelf in the fridge.
You can just reach in there and grab one.
It is a nice contrasting blue color for my motley eggs.
I have been waiting for a reason to use the word motley, finally.

My only problem now is that I need another egg holder,
because the girls are laying eggs in abundance.
Since the snow storm they have been popping eggs out like crazy.
(Well, that's descriptive!)
We get anywhere from 4 to 6 eggs a day.
If you are one of our friends, you may have some in your fridge right now.
Lucky you!

So who gets credit for all the lovely eggs?
Meet the crew.
This is Brownie, one of the original ordered chicks.
She is responsible for our favorite green eggs.
Sometimes I don't eat her eggs right away because I like to see them when I
open the fridge door.

Diamond, is the most flamboyant bird with all her spots and colors.

Scout is the meanest, but a good egg layer.
She's just extremely bossy.

This is probably Biscuit.
Biscuit and Ginger look identical except for slightly different colored heads.
If you've seen one you've seen them both.

Buffy previously held the title of meanest bird, but she
has mellowed out and is top of the list for consistent layer.

Scamp in the nesting box.
Well, she wouldn't come out and I was having a hard time getting good pics.
I'm sure she's thinking that she could at least have a private moment while laying my eggs.
Sorry, Scamp.

Here's a group shot, with Chuckles at the far right.
She moves too fast and I never got a good shot of her.
Just a blur in the background.
She does lay the little tiny cute eggs, though.

And yes, if you noticed, I lost my little Cluck.
I'm sad, but things happen with chicks.
She actually refused to coop and just disappeared.
I will miss you my little chick-a-dee.

We are down to 8 chicks and yesterday we got 7 eggs.
Way to go, girls!
Don't worry, we have had some casualties, but Daddio has more chicks-a-coming.
Sometime in April we should have a new gaggle of baby girls.
Don't miss it!

2hipchick 2010 Year in Review

Well, here we are at the end of another year.
I have been watching all the year-end top countdowns for 2010
and decided to do my own.
(Click on the links below the pictures to see the complete post.)
2Groovydude at his artsy-fartsy class
at Gilcrease Museum.
What else would you be inspired to make at the cowboy museum?
Cow skulls.
The mind of a little boy always amazes me.
Rainy day shot of Gilcrease campus.

My artsy-fartsy project for Daddio's birthday.
He is still at those lessons.
We actually recognize the songs he is playing now.

Okie sunset.

My favorite veggie dish.
Yum!

Dan and Jeff getting the projects done on our
Down Home Ranch
mission trip.
2Groovydude on his bunk at the ranch.
Daddio and the 2Groovydude taking a break in the giant boot chair.
Rhubarb really loves to help with the gardening.
Crocus means spring!

2Groovydude likes to help me cook.
We have made lots of great goodies together this year.
For all of our favorite treats click on Flips.
Mmm....chocolate!

Now, I would have to say that the arrival of our newest family members
has been quite the project and oh, so much fun!
Baby chicks!
You can't beat 'em.
So fluffy and cute.
Of course, they are all grown up now, but I'm sure we will have more new
babies this spring.
We are hooked on our pet chickens and the eggs are a pretty nice bonus also.

Since Daddio can also cook, I give him a little blog time.
Right now, with the cold weather would be a great time for
Daddio's famous chili.
Give it a try.

I have been hitting the tea pretty hard this week.
Warms you right up!
I discovered a new tea company this year that's worth a look,
if you are a tea lover.

We got in on a church ramp project that turned out to be a lot of fun.
This group really worked together well.
Snap, snap it was done in half a day.
2Groovydude really gets into these projects.
He's a hammering fool.

Oh yeah!  I almost forgot about these new pets.
The Mason bees should be coming around in a few months to
pollinate our garden.
Thanks Bees and Lulu!

The chicken whisperer.

My hummingbird friend.
I still can't believe my luck.

Fun family trip to Destin, FL
And as always a stop at Dewey Destin for our favorite food.

Fun at the beach.
Can't wait to go back.

My tiny children.
Our newest human family member, Cole.

Baby Belle.
Our new puppy.
She's five months old and (I'm knocking on wood, here.)
hasn't had a pee-pee in the house for about a week now.
Rhubarb, Rocket dog.

Tales from the Crypt, I mean Neighborhood.

I hope all of you have a wonderful New Year
with joyous memories to come.
Keep up with the 2hipchick
